About Us

Our Mission

The Community Advisory Council (“CAC”) will work collaboratively with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office (“KCSO”) in bridging the gap between the diverse communities of Kern, as envisioned in the Stipulated Judgment. The CAC will provide input into policy and procedure, provide insight into the community’s concerns, educate the community about the KCSO, and work to build a safer community for all people.

The Vision is to strengthen communication, generated mutual trust, and promoting understanding for a more cohesive and safer Kern County.

Our Sub-Committees and Members

Monitoring Team Evident Change


The Monitors have been brought in to track and assess progress by KCSO and the County in achieve compliance with the Stipulated Judgement on the status of implementation to the Parties (DOJ, KCSO, and the County) and the Court. The Monitors and their team of subject matter experts work with KCSO and the Kern CAC to aid in achieving compliance and to provide technical assistance when requested.

Community Engagement Sub-Committee


  The Community Engagement Sub-Committee shall assume the engagement functions formerly assigned to the Communications and Engagement Sub-Committee, as well as conduct periodic policy review related to community involvement and outreach.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Host public meetings or listening sessions to obtain input from community members.
  • Record, evaluate, and summarize community feedback to identify trends, priorities, and potential action items. 
  • Coordinate with the Community Policing Sub-Committee by submitting actionable items or recommendations for further development or implementation.


The Community Engagement Sub-Committee shall ensure that the community is provided with consistent and structured opportunities to express concerns, ideas, and recommendations, and that such information is accurately conveyed to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) and the Community Policing Sub-Committee for consideration.

The Community Policing Sub-Committee shall assume the communications functions formerly assigned to the Communications and Engagement Sub-Committee.


Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Review community input provided by the Community Engagement Sub-Committee and determine appropriate responses or the development of Problem-Oriented Policing (POP) projects.
  • Provide education and information to both KCSO personnel and the community regarding ongoing initiatives, activities, and outcomes. 
  • Communicate results, updates, and responses back to the community through scheduled meetings or official communications to ensure transparency and accountability. 

  

The Community Policing Sub-Committee shall focus on the implementation of actions derived from community feedback and ensure that results are effectively communicated to both KCSO and the public.
